Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, not only shortening time

After nine and a half months, the construction of the open section of the cast-in-situ tunnel on the west artificial island of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge was completed, marking the completion of the main structure of the cast-in-situ tunnel on the west artificial island of the project, and laying an important foundation for the conversion of tunnel, island, and bridge.

Since the commencement of construction in December 2016, Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge has been under construction for almost 5 years. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2023. The length of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is about 24 kilometers, integrating “tunnel, island, bridge and underwater interchange” into one. It is a major project of the national “13th Five-Year Plan” and a key transportation hub project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. After completion, it will become a direct highway connecting the two economic circles - “Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou Economic Circle” and “Zhuhai-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Economic Circle”.

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge includes not only a suspension bridge that spans the Lingding Channel and a 6845-meter-long sea tunnel, but also the east artificial island, the west artificial island, and the interchange of the airport hub under construction. The project adopts the technical standard of a two-way eight-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 km/h.

From the map, Neiling Dingyang can be seen as a triangular sea area with Nansha Bridge and Humen Bridge at the top, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge - the longest cross-sea bridge in the world on the “bottom” edge, and Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is the “median line” in the triangle. After the project is completed and opened to traffic, the driving time from Shenzhen to Zhongshan will be shortened from the current 2 hours to about 20 minutes.

According to the plan, Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge will connect to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Shenzhen International Convention & Exhibition Center in the east, to Zhongshan Cuiheng New District in the west, and to Zhuhai, Foshan, Jiangmen and other cities.
