The time of this visit was approaching the winter solstice. The volunteers specially prepared dumpling materials and made dumplings with Xiao Tong, Ting Ting and their mother to welcome the winter solstice. During the activity, the volunteers sat around with them and divided the work for making dumplings. Xiao Tong and Ting Ting were responsible for placing the fillings on the dumpling wrappers, and the volunteers and mother were responsible for wrapping and shaping the dumplings.
After nearly an hour of tacit cooperation, a number of dumplings of different shapes were made and placed on the plate, and then they cooked and had some dumplings together, feeling very happy and satisfied. Mother even said, “It is rare that there are so many people sitting together in the house, and I feel that the whole house is full of vitality, and I am really happy.”
During the process of making dumplings, the volunteers also had in-depth communication with Xiao Tong and Ting Ting. During the communication, the volunteers found that Xiao Tong and Ting Ting had trouble expressing themselves when getting along with colleagues and classmates. For this reason, the volunteers gave them guidance patiently, told them how to get along with others and reject unreasonable requests from others, and also told them to actively contact the staff of the work therapy station and the school to communicate and solve problems that they cannot solve.
During this visit, the volunteers sat around and made and ate dumplings with Xiao Tong and Ting Ting’s family, which enlivened the atmosphere of their home, and their feelings were continuously transmitted through the dumplings, allowing them to fully feel the care and warmth.
